Case Study: What to Do With Empty School Buildings?
Over the course of a ten-year rebuilding program, Cincinnati Public Schools found itself with 21 buildings it would no longer need as an active school. The building project budget also planned on getting some revenue from the property sales. Ohio laws strictly control how public schools can dispose of buildings they no longer want and require that they first be offered to local charter schools at appraised value. With the help of its real estates consultants and attorneys, CPS managed to dispose of 21 properties in 3 separate auctions.
